Updated R2R Trail Guide Features Major Reroute
The Forest Service Crews recently completed a three mile reroute of the R2R trail in the Lusk Creek Wilderness. This reroute is between trail 425 and Little Lusk Creek on the east end. The FS has been working on the reroute for about a year and half. This reroute eliminates a long 2.5 mile section of trail that was on old FS roads and replaces in with a new trail that makes a gradual 3 mile climb from the creek up the ridge. Making a comparison of the elevation graphs on page 50 of the new guide versus previous guides clearly shows the change associated with this new trail. The new trail has been fully remarked with reassurance markers, however the reassurance markers may not be removed from the old trail yet.
With this new trail update, all new R2R Trail maps were created back in November 2019. These maps have also been incorporated into the new version 5.3 of the Official Trail Guide issued in January 2020.
The new maps from November 2019 have also been uploaded to the Trail Societies web site where they can be downloaded individually
All that remains is to update the maps in the Avenza map store which should get done in the next couple of weeks depending on how quickly Avenza will approve them.

I hiked the R2R Trail a while back. Now I am contemplating hiking it again – perhaps this spring. It is a very good trail; I like it.

Glad you liked it, make sure you check out the trail guide because there has been several reroutes in the last 10 years. Good Luck and consider sending us a trail story on your hike.

I am looking for a hard copy of the updated 2019 maps that feature the reroute for the Lusk Creek portion. The whole trail will be necessary as I plan to do a through-hike this spring. I found that there are some adequate maps from your society available for download on Avenza App, but this is no good for me as I do not plan to bring a cellular phone with me. Any information about where a printed version of these maps or where to source a complete map of the trail would be greatly appreciated.
