Termination of R2R Trail closure between Bassett and Karbers Ridge Roads

As President of the River to River Trail Society I received notification from the Forest Service that they rescinded the June 2019 trail closure on December 3, 2019. Upon receiving the notification that the closure was lifted, I inquired if the Forest Service assured the trail was navigable, passable and had adequate trail assurance markers (Blue I’s) after the logging was completed and they said they hadn’t. As a result, the Society would like to formally thank Society Member Fred Scott for taking a hike this past week to check and verify the section of trail and make sure no additional trail signs needed to be installed.

In making the hike Fred found a section of rock retaining wall near the trail and took the following photo of it.

  1. Some friends and I would like to do the trail in sections. Do you have info as to what are good sections for hikers to hike on a long 3 day weekend?

    • My recommendations would be for the sections from High Knob west to Lusk Creek but I don’t know how far you hike in a day. Check out the guide book because I have tried to highlight everything along the trail in that guide.
